The bond between humans and animals is both ancient and profound, shaping the history of civilizations throughout time. This deep and reciprocal relationship began with the domestication of animals, which not only transformed human society but also led to the development of veterinary medicine—its name derived from the Latin veterinus, meaning draft or pack animal. It is upon these foundations that the Museum of Veterinary Medicine was established.

Founded in the mid-1990s, the museum houses an extensive collection of bone specimens, preserved samples, and anatomical preparations of both domestic and wild animals, encompassing both normal and pathological cases. Despite being one of the University of Padua’s more recent museums, its collections hold significant scientific and educational value, offering a unique insight into vertebrate diversity, from structural variations to environmental adaptations.

Today, the Museum operates within the Department of Comparative Biomedicine and Nutrition (BCA) and serves as an essential learning resource for students at the Agripolis Campus. Beyond academia, it is increasingly recognized as a valuable hub for schools, researchers, enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the natural world.
